Singapore boasts no shortage of family-friendly hotels, but after thorough research, we chose to stay at the 5-star Shangri-La Hotel Singapore. Traveling as a family of four with kids aged 4 and 8, we found our choice to be perfect. Here’s a detailed review of our stay and what makes this hotel ideal for families.

Where is it?
It’s located about a 5-minute drive or a 15-minute walk from the Orchard Boulevard and Stevens Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) stations. The hotel offers free shuttle services to the MRT station every hour from 11 am to 4 pm, making it easy to explore the city. Changi International Airport is a 20-minute drive away.
Accommodation: Perfect for families
Shangri-La Singapore offers 792 luxurious rooms and suites spread across three distinctive wings: Tower Wing, Garden Wing, and Valley Wing. This property is actually the world’s very first Shangri-La Hotel in the Shangri La Group, opened on 23 April 1971.
We stayed in the Tower Wing Deluxe Family King room on the family floor. Our room featured a tented kids’ bed, blackout curtains, and faced the tranquil gardens and pool, ensuring a quiet stay.
I LOVED the Family Pantry room located on the same floor as our room, which we could access at any time of day using our room key. It had two large washing machines and two dryers, and lots of baby and kid essentials.
Two children aged 11 and below can stay free of charge when sharing their parents’ room, subject to room category restrictions. Extra beds or baby cots can be provided if space allows. If you have the budget to splurge on a themed family suit like Underwater Family Suite or Space Themed Family Suite then these look really great. I would really like to get a chance to stay in one of these rooms one day! These are separate rooms with an interconnecting tunnel to the kids’ room. How fun is that!
Baby and kid essentials provided
Anything you can think of for babies and kids can be found in this family-friendly hotel in Singapore, so you don’t need to worry about packing these if you’re coming to stay at this hotel. Many of these items below are found in the Family Pantry Room. If not there, you can contact the hotel to provide you with the items.
- Stokke high chairs, strollers, baby carriers, car seats, baby bouncers, and cots
- Baby feeding equipment, bibs, equipment sterilizer
- Changing mats, baby wipes, diapers
- Baby laundry detergent, laundry drying racks
- Baby bathtubs and bath toys like rubber duckies
Special treats for kids
Upon arrival, our kids received goodie bags with coloring books, pencils, cookies, kid-sized slippers, and kids’ shower gel and shampoo. The room included kids’ toothbrushes (for different ages), toothpaste, and bathrobes.
Is there a kids club?
Yes, it’s called Buds by Shangri-La and it’s really big. This interactive play space features giant ball pits, a large soft play area, a games room, a cooking studio, and a music studio. There are activities for all ages. Kids can run around, jump, and stay active, and the club even hosts birthday parties. Remember to bring socks with good grip, or purchase them at the reception.
There are two sessions daily: 9 am to 1:30 pm and 2 pm to 6:30 pm. Children under 4 must be accompanied by an adult, while children aged 4 and above can stay by themselves.
Anywhere to swim?
There is one large outdoor pool featuring sections of varying depths—some less than knee-deep for babies and others suitable for older children. There is a lifeguard on duty, and I could tell they were constantly watching the kids in the pool, which was really reassuring. The pool is open until 8 pm and was busy until closing time.
Additionally, there is a separate splash zone with water slides and fountains, resembling a mini water park. It’s great fun for all ages. There are slides that go into the water, jet cannons, and shallow pools for babies and younger children.
Anything for the grown-ups?
Indeed, there is a gym and tennis courts for the more active type, and the CHI Spa for those looking for a quiet retreat. There are different body treatments, massages on offer as well as facials using the Biologique Recherche French skincare brand. The changing rooms offer a sauna, steam room, hot whirlpool bath, and relaxation areas.
What are the food options like?
The Line is a popular all-day dining restaurant featuring live cooking stations and a wide array of international dishes. This is where we had our daily buffet breakfast and an occasional evening à la carte meal. The breakfast buffet had a huge selection of food, both Asian and European-influenced so everyone in the family could find what they liked. Babies and children can be given plastic cups, plates and cutlery on request, and even colouring pages with pencils.
Although we didn’t eat at the other restaurants as we chose to have lunch and dinner elsewhere in Singapore, there are plenty of other dining options available if you choose to stay at the hotel. There is the upscale Shang Palace with Cantonese cuisine, Waterfall Ristorante Italiano with Italian cuisine, and Original Grill, a grill and steakhouse restaurant.
We did have afternoon tea on the day of arrival at the beautiful Rose Veranda, and it was wonderful. Everything from the freshly baked scones to sandwiches and the dessert bar was absolutely delicious.
Do kids eat for free?
Children under 6 eat free at The Line when accompanied by at least one dining adult (up to two children per room). For additional children or those aged 6-12, a 50% discount off the adult buffet price applies.
What’s the cost?
Rooms rates in Deluxe Family Rooms in the Tower Wing start from SGD320 (EUR 220) per night and vary depending on season.
We selected the Fun Family Playcation package, which included complimentary three-hour daily sessions at the Buds kids club and the splash pool zone, children’s welcome packs, as well as a daily dining credit of SGD 100 per night.
All in all, Shangri-La hotel in Singapore is a top choice for families visiting the city. With its extensive amenities for children, spacious rooms, and excellent service, it’s easy to see why this family-friendly hotel in Singapore stands out.
