Paris in October: Things to Do with Kids

If you’re wondering about the best things to do in Paris with kids in October, don’t let the cooler weather keep you indoors. From Halloween-themed events to new children’s centres and family-friendly exhibitions, Paris has plenty to keep little ones entertained. Here are my top picks for the best family-friendly things to do in Paris this October.

1. Visit “The Moonwalkers” immersive exhibit at the Atelier des Lumières

october paris with kids_the knowledge nuggets

From 24 September 2025 until mid-December 2025, the Atelier des Lumières unveils a brand-new immersive exhibition, and this time it’s about the Moon. The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks takes visitors through the story of the Apollo missions and the future of space exploration with Artemis. Guided by Tom Hanks, you’ll be surrounded by giant projections of remastered NASA footage. The sound, music, and images completely transform the space, making you feel as though you’re part of the adventure.

This exhibition is different from the Atelier des Lumières’ usual focus on painters and visual art. The Moonwalkers is an immersive scientific documentary that brings the history of the Moon landing to life. The experience lasts about 50 minutes, making it easy to enjoy with kids or as part of a family day out in Paris. The narration is in French, with English subtitles available.

Address: 38 rue Saint-Maur, 75011, Paris

Dates: 24 September – mid December 2025

Tickets: €18 for adults, €11 for children ages 3-11, and free for children under 3. Buy tickets here.

3. Join the farewell at Centre Pompidou

center pompidou, paris, art

On 24 and 25 October 2025, the Centre Pompidou invites you to its grand farewell before closing for five years of renovations. For two days and nights, the museum will transform into a vibrant celebration of art, music, and creativity. This will be the biggest event ever organized by the Centre Pompidou.

Access is free from 11am to 6pm, subject to availability. The evening program, featuring live music performances, will run from 7pm until 5am, but tickets for the evening events have already sold out.

For kids in particular, the Centre will set up the “Village des Enfants,” a special corner for ages 0–12: a huge artistic playground designed for families. Children and their grown-ups can join workshops created by artists with the support of a dedicated team, colour walls in bright shades, take a well-deserved break with a snack or on a piece specially designed for babies, build a house made of tubes or rubber, and join an animated tour of the building where everyone becomes an artist.

In addition, there will be Family Drawing Tours – sketching journeys through the Centre Pompidou’s architecture for children aged 6 and up. Check out the full program on the official website here.

From 4 October to 2 November 2025, the Jardin d’Acclimatation brings the colours and energy of Mexico to Paris with its vibrant Día de los Muertos celebrations. The park’s alleys and stages will be filled with skeletons, mariachis, dancers, and fire performers, all dressed in the festive spirit of this Mexican holiday.

Families can enjoy daily shows and performances, from puppet theatre and magic acts to traditional Mexican dances and the spectacular evening Baile de Fuego parade of skeletons and dancers. Kids will love the professional makeup stands where they can be transformed into skeletons or spooky creatures, while the whole family can sample Mexican favourites like burritos and churros before heading off to enjoy the rides.

And of course, the park’s 42 attractions and 18 hectares of green space mean there’s plenty more to discover beyond the festival. I’ve written a full post about the Jardin d’Acclimatation, with tips on rides, play areas, and why it’s one of the best amusement parks in Paris for families — you can read it here.

To follow the Grand Parade it is free but the entrance to the park remains paid.

Maison Mômes offers a wide mix of workshops and free play for children aged 6 months and up. Toddlers can join baby gym, sensory and motor skill sessions, or musical awakening workshops with real musicians for their first encounters with sound. From 18 months, children can dive into painting, crafts, puzzles, fun experiments, and creative expression to spark imagination and independence. For the slightly older ones, there are painting ateliers and even an English studio led by an American teacher.

Alongside structured activities, kids can enjoy free play, while parents have the option to organize personalized birthday parties in the space. You’ll also find family-friendly workshops like baby yoga (2–4 years), cooking, and early reading introductions.

Chez Bogato Boutique, in the heart of the Marais, offers pastry workshops for children with fun, ever-changing themes throughout the year. Kids can join workshops (or ateliers) designed for ages 4–10, teenagers (10+), or even take part in parent–child duo sessions. I once joined a Christmas baking class here with my daughter and we had such a wonderful time (you can read more about it in my post here). Around Halloween, the boutique also runs themed cooking workshops that are a fantastic way to celebrate the holiday together.

Check their website here for the full list of Halloween workshops. There are several running throughout the month of October. This year’s spooky menu includes Halloween macarons, Harry Potter cupcakes, monster cookies, and cake pops. Each workshop lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes, with prices ranging from €39–45 per person. Some classes are suitable for ages 4+, while others start at 6+.

The Musée d’Orsay isn’t just for adults – it also welcomes children with dedicated workshops designed to spark curiosity and creativity. Led by visual artists who specialize in working with young audiences, the workshops help children connect what they see in the museum with their own creative expression. Sessions are available on Wednesdays, weekends, and during school holidays, and are reserved for children only (no adult supervision required). The sessions are in French only.

Check out the full program to see more details about the workshops, including dates, prices, and how book your tickets.
